I believes it is Costus Sp, most likely costus speciosus, (Cheilocostus speciosus, or crepe ginger) however flower will be needed to confirm I guess. Crepe Ginger (Hellenia speciosa)

Tofi, that looks like a match. I was having a problem with a ginger plant with all leaves on one side of the stem.

I hope the ID is correct, the spiral/crepe ginger is so very common here in Sumatra-Indonesia, as it is native here, and used a lot in traditional herbal remedies.

After looking it up it's not right. The pictures i seen were purple stalks but the one i have starts purple then after about 3 foot turns green.
As with many of organism, plants are quite variable, including stem coloration on this one. The link on NGA is just an example, there are many other sources, but again flowers are needed sometimes.
How ever a mystery ID makes gardening becoming more interesting.
