Just pruned my 12 yr old Obesum just a bit to have more flowers next yr. Waited till bloom ended after 3weeks.
I pruned my younger plants hard to shape and for more blooms. A few of my yr old did not bloom so they got hard pruned for branching.

Based on my personal experience, pruning promotes branching and increased blooming. I have to admit it was scary lopping off my babies. Haha

I have a 3 year old Thai Socotranum and can't find any info on pruning this youngster. She has quite a few branches but I would like to encourage a wider canopy. Any advice?

To me that one looks good so far with it's nice fat caudex/roots. I think with time, proper light and proper water, it will enlarge it's canopy on it's own. I wouldn't be pruning it yet. Later on if the branches don't elongate, then I'd take a tiny bit off the end of each branch. These are very hardy plants, and pruning doesn't hurt them if it's thoughtfully done. it normally makes them better.

I agree with Karen. That is a good looking plant. Wish it was mine.
