Yes Tim, your cat is adorable. He sure is a prince alright, prince of the irises. My black kitty got into my house plant yesterday, and knocked it off the table. I was mad at him, but cats can be a pain sometimes.
Not only people give others signs, but plants do too.
My black cat, Bagheera, once jumped up onto my back for a nap, while I was on my hands and knees weeding the garden. He just lay there sunning himself and napping. He stayed there until I had to get up, then walked away like I had hurt his feelings or something.

Our Isis was very well-trained to only use a box. She would urgently ask to come inside to use hers. We were laying parts for the greenhouse install. We had the bottom frame laid out on the grass. Isis saw it and, you guessed it, climbed inside and used it! We never laughed so hard before or since!
