Rain lillies not day lillies.

Heya ladies and gents,
I have 2 med sized pots of day lillies. They are about 3 years old I bring them inside for winter they bloom all year around for mw this past year! and my mother inlaw is ready to trash them.
Ps I almost "Trash" nothing.
I thought I had read once that I could take those bulbs out the pots save them for spring again.
Is this correct??. My memory is poor so I don't remember.
I place the bulbs in newspaper then in a plastic bag , I can store in cool, dark place.?? Check every few weeks to a month or so and maybe add some water if they are dried out. Keeping them damp???
If anyone knows about this method could you please either share web sites with me or your knowledge would be much appreciated.
My mother in law sit them on the deck this morning so I dont know how long they will last out in the cold but Temps here are highs 50s lows 20, 30s at night right now. I know they dont like the cold much! Im worried how long before they go.in shock!! ??


Again this is something I read sometime ago and idk if I remember any of that correctly.
I may try to keep them with my plants but gosh I have over a dozen inside plants right now and Idk if I can provide the light they need or even space which is the bigger issue for me right now. But I do want to try to keep them.

Rain lily. Arnt they so beautiful. The ones we have are a nice dark pink.

You might want to go to Suggest a Change to ask that the subject be changed from "Rain lilies need answer asap PLEASE!" to something that will get you answers about how to overwinter the Rain Lillies - maybe something like "how to overwinter Rain Lily bulbs"?

It's also possible to edit any post to take out wrong words - I do that all the time.

The white rain lilies grow in the wild in many parts of Texas. I swapped some with someone who's also on NGA. Having a brain drain right now as to her name but I do remember that she lives in a colder climate than mine.
Either she'll see your question or I'll remember her name.

In the meantime, please don't trash these lovely rain lilies.

Rain lilies - Zephyranthes sp. are not cold hardy enough to grow outside in Zone 6. Mine (Zephyranthes candida) live in my greenhouse year 'round, are evergreen and bloom (white) in the fall.

Pamela's are the type that go dormant until it rains, then they seem to spring up overnight, probably Zephyranthes minuta.

Unfortunately they left those plants out all night! I ask them yesterday morning what they were doing with them and they said they were going to bring them back in last night " i knew they would forget!" and I had to work last night so I could not save them unless by some good luck it didnt kill them!
If so Im made a space for them on my plant stand. I think lol it will be a tight fit but if you all knew how well these plants have done so well they bloom so often now and wow they are perfect! I love them!
I hope the cold didnt kill them it was low of 34 degrees last night. I know that sounds like a for sure killer but Im gonna keep my hope in how healthy they were may save them. I let you all know this evening!! Cross ur fingers please!

I don't think 34 is a for sure killer- especially plants on a deck, porch, up against a house, or under a tree- where it is a little warmer overnight.

My suggestion is to put them still potted into a cool place and leave them until spring. Don't water until you are ready for them to green up. They will lose their leaves this winter. This is normal. When it is warm again, put them outside and water. They will send out new leaves and then start blooming again. You can take the bulbs out of the pot, but if you keep them moist, they will probably start to rot. Just put into a brown paper bag and leave them alone.
