Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Peacock Maiden')

In Sept. 2011 I purchased Peacock Maiden at the Tulsa Area Daylily Society sale. I was disappointed when it didn't bloom in 2012. In 2013 it looked sickly and sparsely bloomed. Since 2014 it's been healthy with many blooms and rebloom scapes. The scapes are tall with a big beautiful flowers. I like it a lot.

We have had this Daylily since 2013 and it has performed well in South Australia.
We moved house a while ago and took some of the Peacock Maidens with us and in spite of an early heatwave this year they are again in full flower.

I grew PEACOCK MAIDEN for many years, but I decided that it needed to go for some more modern looking UFOs. It is a wonderful plant and performed very well for me in my ZONE 5 garden. Harsh winters never bothered it. It took being divided rather well. It was tall and bloomed for a long period of time. I would still grow it if space was not an issue for me.

Peacock Maiden has done well her despite its location in the garden.

It always performs well here in zone 6b.

Peacock Maiden bloomed in late May, it re bloomed for me and provided blooms as late as the middle of September. I made no written notes except for the fact that the plant was sitting very low in my bog garden and I raised it up in October. Even though the crown was very low and it was sitting in a very wet spot, the plant performed very well and I remember thinking how well it had performed under such conditions. It multiplied quite well and showed decent rust resistance.


For some reason I had the hardest time recalling the name of 'Peacock Maiden', I would see it and think how well it was performing but always have to go look at the label for the name.

Oh, I guess it grew all right, but I lost interest in it. Had its fair share of splotchy blooms and, like many dips, took a long time to re-establish after division. A few harsh winters (one with virtually no snow cover) also were unfriendly to this evergreen. Never had the bud count I wanted, but didn't have prime location. It is now eliminated.

This had thin flimsy scapes for me that fell over and needed tied up.

I've only has this one for one season, so I can't fully evaluate the performance, but its doing well so far and the blooms are really showy with the white striping and I really like the shade of medium purple. I feel it has better coloring then any of my other purple varieties so far.
