I saw this gorgeous cultivar growing in the ground at Perfect Perennials in York, Pennsylvania, in July 2016 and was immediately smitten. It was my introduction to the excellent work of Margo Reed, the hybridizer of Cabernet Cabaret.

Spurred by Cabernet Cabaret, I created a garden devoted to dark-colored cultivars with green or yellow eyes (broadly similar to Cabernet Cabaret) and cultivars that are green or yellow like the eyes of the darker cultivars.

I planted Cabenet Cabaret in August, 2017, so I have not yet seen it bloom in my garden. I planted several other cultivars hybridized by Margo Reed in this garden because I have heard such good things about Margo's hybrids.
