Does the welcome menu come up for newbies? I see so many questions in this forum about how to maneuver this site. I just migrated from DG to Cubits, to here, so learned as I went along, but was wondering why no new people ever read the help instructions. When I started looking for that, I found I had to scroll all the way to the bottom of the forums list to find the Welcome forum. I would assume that would be at the top, somewhere for new people.

Sometimes people don't scroll all the way to the bottom. And when they do find the welcome way down there, the first three items are stickies, some from quite a long time ago. That discouraged me when I first joined.

But those stickies are the very instructions that other people want and need. How could they be discouraging?

I just looked through them, and I agree they do give the instructions pretty well, but I still feel that should be more easily accessed by new members. I do realize that things are in alphabetical order, but It seems this should be more conspicuous. If it was at the top of the list, maybe more new members would read it...or maybe a separate category from communities.

I agree that they should be more prominent They also need a little bit of editing because the locations of some things have changed. Icons that were at the top left of the page are now at the top right, the member list is in a different place, etc.).

When I first found this place it had a thread that could answer my questions probably, so I joined and asked.
Continuing on was not even on the horizon , so I just wanted to get it done.
More questions and more answers kept me here. Blinking
As far as that goes, I have used well over a dozen forums over the years and have never used the welcome area as I was there for a specific reason.
Once that was taken care of, if there was no reason for more posts there were none Shrug! , if conversations occurred I kept on keeping on. Thank You!
One day I will actually read the rules for use on one of these forums just to see what they say. Shrug!

When I joined, I just learned by trial and error.
I was allways on ask a question . Where people were talking, forum this, and forum that..... I said to self. πŸ€”??? What are they talking about ?Then ??? Somehow, Shrug! I found forums ? Ohhh πŸ˜€ more stuff to fiddle with.

Now, after 2, 3, or so years, I still don't know the difference between a thread and a post. But, I really don't care.

35 years of gardening, I though I knew it all.....πŸ€”..... NOT !
I also, enjoy helping people out.

So ! Garden on ! Hurray!

Lol....

Instructions are for when nothing else works....

When the site is intuitive enough.... Shouldn't need instructions....

Any site that is so complicated that I can't figure out how to use it.... I'm prolly not going to bother... Plenty of easier to use sites....

Of course, we were on a different site at the time and although it was nice, it wasn't as intuitive as this one, it took me a while to figure things out. Making first posts for questions and not knowing where to go was anxiety filled (I am an anxious person though). My first post got responded immediately with a "double post" comment because the question had been answered somewhere else, or there was already a thread for it that I didn't find or couldn't see, because I had no direction. In general, the people here are very kind and welcoming, and just gently push people in the right direction. I would agree that the welcome and instructions could be higher on the list and have better viewing priority for new members.
