I love gardening & love to share.
The weatherman states that it will go down to 33 degrees tonight. Even though it is one degree above freezing; should I cover them up? One is a year old and the other is about 4 years old. They are in containers; so if need be, I can move them from the yard to the patio and cover them with a sheet or blanket.

Is it safe to leave them out tonight; or should I drag -bring them on the patio and cover them?

Thanks, Pat Morris

Normally, I wouldn't worry about a Meyer Lemon, even in a pot but yours are not mature trees. The easiest solution would be to put a kerosene lamp in each pot by the tree. If not a lamp, a halogen lightbulb. You need something that will produce a little heat, it doesn't take much.

If all else fails, start dragging but DO NOT cover them in plastic. An old sheet is better. They would most likely be okay where they are with a sheet over them. Put a couple stakes around the pots to keep the sheet from touching the foliage. Mature Meyer Lemons are hardy down to close to 20 degrees.

Thanks, Daisy!

I brought the youngest one on the patio and covered it with a sheet; the older one -which has had many lemons each year -I covered it with a sheet also. I twisted my back in the shower Christmas Eve; so didn't want to lift the heavier one. Thanks for your feedback. I feel more comfortable since I covered them.

The attached pictures were taken back in April and June; so they are larger now -especially the one with blooms. Pat
