Out today, (a nice surprise for the new year!).
2 old hybrids you don't see around now.
Both slightly tricky growers.

Amber queen.

Cuthbert. (An unusual colour, pinkish purple.I have successfully hybridised with this).

Happy New Year to all! Wishing everyone a wonderful 2018, full of beautiful blooms!

Steve, those are both really gorgeous flowers! Lovey dubby I love the Hybrid Epiphyllum (Epiphyllum 'Amber Queen') and we need that beautiful photo in the database but I'm a pink kinda girl and I really love the color of Cuthbert!

Thanks Lin,
I will put Amber queen in the database.
Cuthbert is on the ESA endangered epis list...i.e. nobody grows it anymore.
(Perhaps because the name is not particularly endearing!).

Aloha, really enjoying those blooms from the southern Hemisphere.

Although its only January I noticed about 15 buds on various plants while watering yesterday. I hope to post some pics soon. Epis got a bit neglected this "off season" due to other garden obsessions so lost a few plants but lots of new growth on those remaining. I must admit its a little less stress looking after about 200 pots vs what I had before.

Really looking forward to getting some new blooms.

Wow, over 11,000 views last year. We have come along way since we started the Epi forum!

Most are in greenhouses but last year I hung some pots outside. They seem to be doing OK. So this year I'm thinking of putting some in the trees in the forest without the pots to see if they will grow in a natural environment. Have to look for a spot where the roots will have some a place to take hold or create an artificial rooting spot with hapuu fern fiber.

Oh! I want to watch the progress on that! They should do great in their natural environment.

Buds are starting to open in the northern hemisphere. The is Wild Aclaim. I like to call it January surprise. Toured the pots yesterday and found buds on 2 more plants so should have some new blooms soon. I don't recall getting this many buds this early in the year. About 15 buds spotted so far.

That's an unusual epi Mike. Very nice.
An old Cactus Pete hybrid.
(I wonder who Jinx Falkenberg was?)
'Jinx Falkenberg' - CP 1945 Bright cerise. Waxy. Cup and saucer form. {XL} Reg. #05841

(Turns out SHE was a 1930's supermodel.
Only died in 2003).

I think this is Wild Aclaim but will check the tag when I next venture out in the rain. Not sure why this one bothered to open.We have not seen the sun for 10 days and have continuous moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms during that time. Over nine inches of rain last week. Still raining this morning and this epi is outside. Lots of buds coming which is a surprise in late February, so March looks like there will be some nice blooms
