2018 Spring Plant Swap May 19 in Central MD

More and more of us are experiencing warm spells that are allowing us to get out and play in the dirt (YAAAAY!). As such, we're starting to sort things out as to what we want to offer.

By opening registration early, people can start building their plant lists in the swap tool and use it as a way of keeping track of their planned offerings. It will also allow us to start figuring out what we may be looking for.

Because of the really screwy weather we're having this year, I am going to open the registration for Jan's May swap on February 21.

I realize that this gives us 2 months before trading actually begins, but I think it will help people stay organized.

Also, for those that are unfamiliar with the swap tool, it will give them plenty of time to play around, ask questions, etc.

Date Reminders:
What: 2018 Spring Plant Swap
Registration Begins: Saturday, February 24, 2018 Mid-Atlantic Gardeners 2018 Spring Plant Swap

Trading Begins: Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00pm <- Note Correction !
Trading Ends: Thursday, May 17 at 7:00pm

Swap Date: Saturday, May 19, 2018
Time: Noon until . . .
Where: SallyG's place in Central MD. Directions will be posted at a later date.
Who: NGA Members and their guests (scroll down thread for list of party-goers)

This swap is being hosted by SallyG in Central Maryland. Directions will be posted the week of the swap.

There are two threads set up for the Mid-Atlantic Gardeners 2018 Spring Plant Swap.

The first thread is to let us know who is attending and what food or beverage item they are bringing for the pot luck lunch.
2018 Spring Plant Swap

The second thread is for general chat about the swap. This thread also contains information on how the swap will be conducted.
2018 Spring Plant Swap - CHAT

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them to the chat thread.

If you've never been to an in-person swap, don't be shy! After all, where else can you go and hang out with a bunch of people talking about plants with enthusiasm?

The beauty of hosting is:
not dragging plants
not driving
possibly also getting rid of more that day- see it , dig it
maybe getting left behind plants you hadn't considered
showing off your garden
Plant it and they will come.

Sounding very good for the 19th. Thumbs up Thumbs up

My daughter has two friends who would like to come. They would be mostly "receivers"; I said we love presenting newbies with wonderful plants (AKA please take my excess)! One is starting out with a (dog-friendly) yard, the other is very interested in potted plants.
Plant it and they will come.

Sally, thanks for offering to host!

Cool to have newbie friends -- occurs to me that black-eyed susans are very dog-friendly. Maybe also garlic chives? and mint? LOL

Black eyed Susans for sure sound good for the newbie yard.

RIck, I'm old-school and hadn't even occurred to me about the swaptool. Wanna just take care of it for me? (smiling sweetly)
Plant it and they will come.

Swap tool? You have to set up a swap tool? Can't you just plug the darn thing in and it works? Well there goes the thought of us ever hosting again. I'll have to let the newbie tech savvy members do it. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

It's just a matter of signing with as a swap host, then creating the swap -- give it a name, date, write the details that show up at the top of the page. Dave has made it very easy to put a new swap into the tool, and we've gotten pretty good at adapting the "seed swap" tool to swapping plants.

Rick and I both have access to the host panel, and we're both glad to help with any swap... or either of us can guide a new host through the process. Like using the tool, the idea sounds intimidating until you actually try to do it, and then it's pretty straightforward.
We're all learners, doers, teachers.

i know., Jill... just like at work, we have a new LED display for promoting stuff. So now 'somebody' has to volunteer to create slides in Powerpoint or Canva and then keep them up to date on the display. We're all capable of using PP or Canva, nothing far out there, it's a matter of feeling like learning something new.

Jill, or Rick, If I don't seem to have budged and you think it's time to create the tool for a May swap, you have my blessing and gratitude to go right ahead.
Plant it and they will come.
