SOLAR MUSIC is a tall plant with large flat yellow flowers. It is one that I recognize anywhere. Handles Zone 5 without any problems. I have many yellows and golds and this is one of my favorites. Mr. Whatley certainly made distinctive yellows. I will always have this one in my garden. I highly recommend it.

bud count? fragrance?

I get a bud count of about 15 and there is a slight fragrance. I think all daylilies have a slight fragrance. Only a few have a stronger fragrance. But my sniffer has been known to not work very well, as my wife would accuse me of not being able to smell poopie diapers.

Solar Music does well here. It blooms for a long time with multiple blooms on most days. Large flower with green throat. This flower can be spotted from a long distance.

As a cautionary note, let me note an observation in another forum: "SOLAR MUSIC drives me crazy because it takes so long to open, has never been its registered height, and has very few blooms here." Another forum member seconded the opening observation. As for bud count, I do know that having transplanted some of my plants to an estate garden, the bud count is much higher in virgin soil.

This past spring was my first year with Solar Music. I had it in a pot, but have since ground planted. I loved the large blooms, but it not did reach the registered height or bud count. I'm sure that was due to the fact that it was new to me. I got eight blooms, but they were beautiful. I later realized that is registered as a dormant which may not perform well in the hot humid Georgia summers and mild winters. I love a large yellow plant with a nice green throat, but a lot of them are dormant.
