Has anyone tried sprinkling ground Cayenne pepper on their lawns to deter dogs/cats? I'm thinking that because they tend to sniff out a spot, that they might decide this isn't a good place to do their business. I'm tired of cleaning up after the neighbor's pets.

Interesting idea! I too would like to know whether it works.

I think you would have better luck sprinkling pepper on the neighbors.

Tried it a few times, did not seem to have any effect on the animals.

Maybe one of those motion-sensor sprinklers would work better?

It worked in 1967 when Paul Newman (Cool Hand Luke) sprinkled all kinds of hot seasonings to throw the dogs off his scent, but in real life, it mostly does not work.

Do what my Dad use to do with the doo, he'd pick it up and throw it on the neighbor's lawn, it only took a few times for the inconsiderate neighbor to get the message.

I've tried it in my pots for the squirrels and my dogs that would sometimes eat the dirt and after one day they were all back at it It would take an awful lot of pepper for a lawn.
Sounds like a neighbor we have here...they have no fence and their dogs run all over...luckily I have a fence and they can't get in my yard. Other neighbors have talked to them with no luck, one returns the poop to them in a bag Good luck

I thought about the motion sensor, but I would get soaked to turn it off or on. No way to get to the tap without that happening. I have thought about returning the gifts to that neighbor, but without photos I can't be sure which dog is responsible, and there is more than one that runs loose around here. At least they're all small breeds.

It wouldn't work to join two hoses with a shut-off valve in between them, placed out of range?

Cats ! Be different 👍 They be persnickety, Ho Ho. I gave sister used coffee grounds, told her to sprinkle around, like say, em, maybe like you would snail pellets, or less.
She had no more kitty bombs. 👍😀😎

For my garden. I use a combo, between either coffee grounds or Cocoa bark, it's Chocolate bean shells ground into Mulch. Spread a layer over tops of rows. Cats don't like smell of chocolate . Go somewhere else. 😀

On occasion, there might be a persistent cat, I call em devil cats !
No respect for smell, or maybe can't smell I pick it up and throw more stuff down in that spot.

Philip, I just leave the leaves/twigs where the fall in the flower beds to discourage cats. Works pretty well. Dog seem to like grass...be it real or plastic.
