Thread OP

I am thinking about planting Shima Nishiki. Does anybody have experience with this one? I've read that the multicolor flowers are not always certain and that you should expect some solid reds. Love it? Regret planting it? Thanks.

When it is young, the flowers have more possibilities of solids red, multi-color often happens at more mature plant.

I have had mine for a long time, 15-20 years or so.

I sometimes get a solid red bloom, but not often.

I like it!

Must be nice to have 15-20 year old plants. I have only lived in this house for 22 years and didn't really start my garden for the first 10. I think my oldest peony is maybe 5-7 years old. Really added to them last summer with more coming this fall. I had three no bloomers last year (Green Lotus, Battle Flag, Christmas Velvet). Hope they do better this summer.

Shima Nishiki is one of the oldest tree peonies I have. Like Frank's, my Shima Nishiki has been in the ground for at least 20 years. I find the colors of the flowers can range from light pinks, to dark pinks, to light reds, to dark reds and then the stripes. It is an interesting plant, if you haven't bought it yet, you should. Smiling
