Does anyone know what this tool is used for?

Can you turn it over and post an image or two of the back?
Also, is the handle made of plastic? What are the measurements?
Did you purchase it locally? New or used?
Thank you.

The fact that it has a plastic handle makes me think it is a specialty tool to be used in a wet environment. That's one of the reasons that I asked for more information and photos. I do have an idea but would like to wait until the request has been fulfilled.

My cousin found it at a yard sale. She had all of Facebook searching far and wide for an answer. I would've sworn it was a gardening tool! Blinking

the handle does seem more like a kitchen tool than an outdoor tool or construction tool
Plant it and they will come.

I would have thought a cake server would be flat and with an offset handle so that the "blade" would go under the cake without the handle interfering. The gizmo looks curved in the picture, more like a scoop. And why the split in the middle? I would more have guessed that it was for scooping something where you wanted to catch only the larger bits and have the "fines" fall through.

I'm skeptical of the cake server answer too.
But, maybe, one side lays flat and the other side supports the slice while you move it?
Googling vintage kitchen tools makes me realize my kitchen drawer is pretty 'vintage.'
Plant it and they will come.

It kind of looks like a tool for paninis. You hold the panini down and slice it in half.

All well and good that your cousin found it at a yard sale. I understand that part. But from where did you get the information that it is a layer cake server...and why specifically a layer cake? Did you or your cousin find a link or photo or something to verify this was a layer cake server?

Also, knowing the general location of the yard sale might actually help as some things are regional.
Thank You!

The panini spatula makes sense (sort of ); compare here:

Not that I looked very hard, but all of the panini spatulas I saw were flat. But also the closest thing I can find, trying to find a kitchen or garden tool that matches. This has become maddening, the questions raised just can't be ignored. LOL!

Greene,

Evidently she found the answer from one of her FB friends. The blades are at a 90° angle. Once the cake is sliced, the server slides under the slice while also supporting the side.

Neither the # or the word Facebook will lead to an immediate answer.
Since that is not a link to information, please let your friend know that there are folks who would like to know where the information can be located.
