I moved from zone 5 to 9 last autumn so this spring is a mystery for me. I'm wondering what this plant may be. It came close to being cut down until I noticed the flower clusters today. All help appreciated.

I agree

Thank you both for the quick replies. I suspected wisteria but the condition of this vine is, well, raggedy. I grew Wisteria in zone 5 years ago and never got a bloom. Will need to work on this plant and find a suitable support. Hurray!

Definitely a variety of Wisterias (Wisteria)

American Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens) is a native.

Japanese Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda) and Chinese Wisteria (Wisteria sinensis) are beautiful but considered invasive in many areas, especially the Chinese Wisteria.
