Thanks to 2 very helpful people I discovered my plant was Albuca Bracteata aka Pregnant Onion. After reading about it I went to properly reposition my plant and found 6 or 7 babies free fallen from the mother bulb, and 2 newly attached growing ones too. That's 11 babies that I've found so far! I'm so happy. I did place those loose babies back where I found them, they look like they still need help from mom, and they need to dry out a little I definitely watered it a bit too much but not enough to really damage anything I don't think.

PS - I want to bring the mom bulb up from the soil, but it's pretty heavily rooted. Can I gently snip or pull it up CAREFULLY or will any root damage possibly kill it?

You can pot the little ones up separately or leave them with the mother onion. If you leave them, the plant will grow and mound. I'll see if I can find a photo of the one growing in my yard in California. There is a reason its called "Pregnant" onion.

Now that you bared more of the bulb, gently dump the plant out of the pot, root ball and all, and add soil underneath it.

This is one of two clumps that grew in my yard in California. This clump was almost 3 feet wide.

This is the second plant, growing in a large bowl:

I inherited my grandmother's pregnant onion plant a few weeks ago. It was way overgrown with many big mama onions for the pot and 30 to 40 babies all over the place. I repotted them all and they seemed to be doing alright until recently when the leaf tips started turning brown. I know they're not getting enough light as I'm having to wait until the weather warms up to take other plants outside.

Leaves browning

Any ideas about the leaves turning brown?
Thanks in advance for any info!

BTW, @sabigrows and @Daisyl I'm envious that you both live where the pregnant onion can grow outside and so large!! Beautiful!

I wouldn't worry about the brown leaves. New leaves will quickly grow to replace them. Each bulb only ever has 2 or 3 leaves at a time. Its the number of bulbs in the pot that make it look so full.

My pregnant onions stayed in California - those plants were too big to be houseplants and wouldn't last a minute outside in Reno.
