I ordered this daylily last year but it didn't survive the winter although it is rated down to zone 4a on several gardening websites. I mulched it heavily and it is in a very protected area in my garden bed where I've been able to grow other plants not usually rated for my zone. Fortunately, the vendor has agreed to replace it but he said it was rated for no lower than zone 5a.

Has anybody been successful growing Malachite Prism in a colder climate? Are there any special considerations or tips you can offer? I had searched all over for this variety and as it was a rare (and expensive) find, I don't want to lose another one.

I bought it last year and I did a check Sat. past. It is poking thru so I can't tell you much more except I have it in a fairly open area with mulch for the winter. Zone 5 in Canada.

Thanks, Ina. Hoping my new plant will survive this time around. I thought I had purchased it 2 years ago but it had been mislabeled and turned out to be Pretty in Pink. Looked all over last year, determined to find it, so I was very disappointed when it was the only daylily not to come up this year. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I can't address your question about MP growing in cold climates because I live in the suburbs of Hades. (Louisiana gulf coast). I just wanted to say that I bought this cultivar - twice - and lost it both times. I so wanted to use it in my diploid breeding program, but since it seemed to be rather persnickety, I sure wasn't going to try a third time. I get the feeling that 'Malachite Prism' is just difficult to grow, but that may just be me.

We had the same experience. I am done with miss " persnickety".
There are newer more exciting similar looking plants that I would rather take a chance with.

Aaaarrrggghhhhh. That's not what I wanted to hear, especially for a $20 plus $13 postage plant.

What similar looking daylilies have you found, if I may be so bold to ask? Thinking I should stay away from evergreen daylilies as they may not thrive in my climate.

I grew MP for a long time and it grew really well for me but I do know that a lot of people have had problems with it. I had a big clump and sold double fans to 15 people. The bud count was about 8 for me but it puts up lots of scapes.

There is a lot of pictures in the database from over ten different gardens. Didn't look up the zones. It obviously has done well in other gardens including yours Joe.

I have grown 'Malachite Prism' for a few years. It grows okay. I would not describe it as a fast increaser in my zone 4 conditions but average. It is hardy under my conditions. Here, its flower is not for me.
