I understand that this variety will self seed. I'm wondering if anyone has this plant and has collected seed. I've been seeking this for quite a while, and considering that it self seeds it's still quite pricey via mail order. I'd like a stand of 6-8 of them, so I'm wondering if sowing it myself wouldn't be the best way to do that.

Just let me know.

Thanks, and happy gardening!!

I've had one plant survive two winters, but this year it's barely alive. I've sprinkled the seeds around and wintersowed some without any sprouts, so I'm not sure it reseeds easily. Obviously if the plant is struggling my spot may be bad for sprouting seeds too, but wintersow containers are pretty ideal.

Hi SeedRat,

Well, that's interesting, because I've read in a couple of places that it does self sow....perhaps not as much as they say however. This last winter was particularly bad for the prolonged deep freeze that we had here in New England, and I imagine you may have had it even worse. That may account for it's failure to thrive this spring.

Well I hope you get some seedlings from your sprinkling in case your mother plant doesn't make it.

Thanks for replying!
