Can anyone help ID this type of grass? Have it scattered throughout majority of my yard. Grows taller and quicker than the rest of my grass. Appreciate any help in advance!!

It's hard to tell without seeing it in closer detail but perhaps quackgrass, Elymus (formerly Agropyron) repens?

Looks like it after doing a little research. Looks VERY difficult to treat and get rid of! Hoping to avoid Glyphoate or round up!

Welcome! Fertiloam and Trimec both have good crabgrass killers, just carefully read and follow the directions.

Just to note, Jose, that crabgrass (Digitaria) and quack grass (Elymus/Agropyron) are not the same plant. Crabgrass is an annual and quack grass is a perennial.

I've also used a product called 'Grass Getter'. It controls a lot of the hard to get rid of grasses.

Looked at both products to get rid of the quackgrass. Might have to take the approach of of cutting low and when it pops up (due to it growing quicker), I'll gently spray some round up from a spray bottle. Lot of risks but can't manually pull weed due to not being able to get the root system and don't want to wipe out whole section of yard yet with round up.

The labels on both have a list of ALL THE TYPES of nuisance grass it will eradicate be it annual ,perennial ,quack ,goose ,sandbur and on and on.I'm not much of a hair er, grass splitter Shrug! sorry. These herbicides are meant for lawns whereas glyphosphate is not.

Jose, the only Fertilome I could find that mentioned quackgrass was an over-the-top product for gardens (so it is not for use on lawns). Do you have a link to a specific product? For Trimec Crabgrass, the label does not mention that it controls quackgrass and also notes the grasses one should not use it on. Is there another one you were thinking of?

Not all herbicides that kill certain grasses are safe to use on other grasses, and not all herbicides that kill grasses kill all grasses. So you really need something that specifies the grass that you want to control.

Glyphosate spot treatment is what is usually recommended for quackgrass, which is quite difficult to control. Or just fertilize and mow and eventually it will get over its spring spurt and not be noticeable.

Crabgrass is crapgrass and here in Pueblo , at work we use Trimec Plus not Trimec Crabgrass and at home I use Fertilome. They both are extremely effective here, so much so ,that we use it less with each passing year.

I understand that this site is meant to be helpful to anyone who asks and that is what I offered, help. I don't know if we have that type of grass here but if we do both of these products will work, if not, then I at least offered.

Without rising or sinking...

Jose, that product appears to have MSMA, an arsenic-based herbicide, as the active ingredient. It is used for crabgrass but is not effective for quackgrass.
