.... im becoming increasingly enchanted with the Medians -- SDBs in particular. Odd how long it takes for some people (me) to change their old (yeah, me too) habits.
But, dang it, -- I spendt my iris budget this year, on my must have TBs. I need some encouragement me to keep my newly budded (pun intended) iris interest alive. Share with me your median stories and successes (as pertaining to median iris). I'd love to hear them. :)

That's great to hear they're growing well for you Timothy! Thumbs up I hope this years box grows just as well, if not better.

Before I could just point the finger at Bonnie....now it takes two hands. Share the love, share the blame, you're beautiful little irises are driving me insane.

I even made a few crosses to MTB's this year. It's nice how quickly they bloom from seeds not such a long turn around like TB's. But it's harder to make the crosses with my old eyes and those tiny blooms. Hilarious! Whistling Glare

I have added some IB's and some MTB's too. Blaming all the same people. They are cute and take up less room. But once I get down on the ground to admire them......it sure takes more time and effort to get back up again! Crying D'Oh! D'Oh!

Some of the little ones sure have gorgeous color patterns, but they just don't seem to fit in here (other than in pots (which I am trying to downsize), or maybe on top of a retaining wall).
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

I like IBs and BBS although I only have of each. Last year was the first time I ordered SDBs. Only 7 of the 17 I ordered bloomed this year although none died. I have ordered some this year despite being a bit dubious about how well they will do for me. So coming later this summer, the following SDBs:

Autumn Jester
Capiche
Crystal Ship
Flaming Lips
Gift of Gab
Jeweler's Art
Love Bites
Oh Canada
Pixie Power
Quench

I read in a Tempo Two catalog that Barry Blyth very rarely hybridizes medians (BBs and IBs I think it was) because their children often have flowers that are a disproportionate size for the height. You get large flowers on a short stem or small flowers on a tall stem. I am choosing to ignore this advice as I am just trying to create an iris with colours and patterns that appeal to me.

Robin - that is interesting to hear because I love Blyth's medians. I snatch them up when I can find them since they are very hard to get in the states.

I have only myself to blame for deciding to buy, and keep buying, IB's, BB's and MTB's. They are fascinating. SDB's were the very second iris order I made. It was one of Schreiner's Tiny Tots offerings where you pick ten out of thirty or so offered (in catalog only). As soon as Smart, Guise, and Ninja Turtles opened I was hooked. And while I blame Bonnie for introducing me to many more, I really have to blame the Tommy boxes more because every SDB I have gotten from Wisconsin has become a stellar grower in my garden.

Ah, Leslie...always looking for someone to blame.... Whistling

(Well, I suppose that Bonnie and Liz won't mind taking the blame.)

Isn't it the irises fault, for being so beautiful? nodding

Oh yeah, and Lucy, too!

Maybe Lucy can get some help with her computer. Lucy, have you put yours into the database?

We mainly grow SDBs & have done so for years. Love to see others catching on.

Can't get them from my computer files over here. Just don't have the skill, but I have introduced several.
