I decided to go and check some gorges around where I live to find some wild sempervivum.
There seems to be a lot of small sedum around there, noticed around 3 species.
I did not have enough time, probably I was there for max 2 hours, it is really hard to go down the gorge, it is over 100yards deep and around 1 mile long, quite a challenge as at some point due being quite hot and humid, 86F, but luckily it was at least overcast so no direct scorching sun.
I've taken shots of most of the sempervivum around that small part where I have been, weak colonies are more prevalent, ones with few and small individuals, but here and there some "normal" ones can be seen. I am curious if there are some much bigger colonies in that gorge.
This is what I have found in a beautiful gorge, I am not sure what species it is, maybe marmoreum?

I was in Romania in 1975 and remembered seeing them growing in the Transylvanian Alps. Most were variants of marmoreum although a few heuffeliis too.

Beautiful country! I had the best stuffed cabbage I have ever eaten there!

@PaleoTemp, what a treat for us to see sempervivums wild in nature! That is a very beautiful gorge!
Kevin, are there any places in the US where semps are growing wild?

I was very excited to see it in the wild for the first time. I gotta go back there, I spent too little time.
Sempervivum is not native to Americas, but mountainous areas in Europe, Caucasus also Turkey

You're correct. I forgot about that! I think the only chance we might get to see semi wild ones would be around old homesteads that are abandoned. I used to see a few in Indiana.

Milan, what a treat your photos are. And what a beautiful gorge. That first photo is amazing. Love the sedum in photo #7.
Kevin, is it just one species, or are there 2 or more species in the photos?

I would say all of those are variants of marmoreum. It is a very variable species. In fact it was divided into several species in the past.

All the semps are native to Europe and Asia except atlanticum that is native to Morocco.

What defines Asia for Sempervivum?

Iran, Turkey, and Armenia chiefly. Mostly difficult to grow species from these areas.
