Hello Rose Lovers!
I am looking for approximately 5 volunteers from western states only (sorry) to help me out with determining shipping to the far western states. As a brand new own root nursery, I am still figuring lots of things out.
Agricultural guidelines have strict requirements shipping into California, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho and Utah from the Midwest, primarily due to Japanese Beetles.
I will be excluding California (because the Ag guidelines are so prohibitive) but would still like to offer shipping to WA, AZ,NV,ID, UT.
For an own root band sized rose, the only real viable shipping option for me (to these 5 states) will be bareroot. Which will mean that I will wash off all the soil, wrap the roots well in paper towels and submerse until drenched, squeeze most of the water out and wrap the wet roots and paper towels in a plastic baggie, and seal well.
I will be shipping flat rate priority mail.
I'm not thrilled to have to wash off all the soil, but if I want to ship to these 5 states, I have little choice at this time. I'd like to see if the baby roses ship well this way, bareroot.
I'm looking for someone from each of these 5 states, to receive a free rose (and free shipping) from me, (probably closer to the fall), and in return, I ask that you honestly tell me about how the rose was, once received. Was it still damp and doing well, or what? I need honesty to determine if I am going to be able to ship this way to these 5 states. All other states will be able to keep the soil intact during shipping.
I will pick the first person to contact me from each state to be the test recipient, as long as you are willing to follow through on what I need in return.
I am thinking it will probably be September before I am ready to test this, but wanted to put this out there to see if anyone is interested in helping me.
I am not sure yet which rose I will be sending. I will have to determine that closer to the time.
Many Thanks!
Mindy
