I have this little plant going on a ledge in the shade. I have a few & 1 had a small pod that has opened up. I haven't had any luck looking it up by it's leaf shape. Any help would be much appreciated! Finding lots of plants around our new "old" house. And enjoying learning what they are!

The seed pod reminds me of Violets. Leaf shape is different then the ones I see in my yard though, so not sure. If there is a seed pod, then there had to have been a flower...did you happen to see that while it was blooming?

I do have lots of viola plants that grow everywhere around the house. I had never noticed there pods before though. Now that in thinking about it i pulled a caterpillar off a very eaten up leaf next to the pod Maybe this mystery plant is growing next to a viola. And doesn't have a pod😉
I haven't seen any flowers from these plants.

I was going to suggest violet for the seed pod also.

The leaves kind of look like sanicula.

Edit...
Sorry to hear that you PULLED a caterpillar off!
Violets are famous butterfly host plants!

Thank you both! I believe it does look a lot like a sanicula. I looked them up and found this photo. I will keep my eye on it. Maybe it will get a bloom before fall.
And no worries Stone mr. Caterpillar was relocated to another close by & well eaten voilet. I have plenty of flowers & plants for all the caterpillars, butterflies & hummingbirds!
