Is it my imagination, or are there less varieties of lilies available than in the past?

I buy mine from Faraway Flowers on FB. Ramona is top notch.

There are less available, yes. There aren't many small growers, hybridizers creating and selling their own and as a local greenhouse mentioned to me, they aren't selling like they used to so greenhouses are investing in less of the them.

There is also The Lily Garden (many offering are her own hybrids)
B & D Lilies, offering some commercial varieties not available elsewhere, and partnering with local hybridizer to offer unique but expensive varieties.

A lot of what is out there are the same old varieties we have seen for years, which can be great, tried and true so to speak, but for the grower who wants something new and different, there are few and far between.

If you order from Canada, The Lily Nook is a good source, S-W Gardens and Valley K Lily Ranch. The phyto can be expensive but getting some different things can be worth it. It just depends on what your flower budget has to say about it. At this point I am quality vs quantity.

Tracey, and anyone else, do you all seem to notice that even The Lily Garden offers basically the same stuff every season and every year, at least the last couple anyways. I keep hoping a new list will come up for fall this year with SOMETHING different.

Like any farmer, floods and drought can affect what you have available. People who grow and dig their own lilies are succeptible to nature's punishment. I know this has attributed to what the Lily Garden has available. Perhaps also transitioning the business to a shared adventure too.

Good point Tracey. Also I'm sure Judith's age plays a role in it as well. The next decade or so could be a hard time for lily enthusiasts to get new material. Even in the last few years since I have gotten involved with lilies, there have been a number of people that have "retired".

Or Rick or Connie or Patrick or Joe or Anthony or Hank or Della or Lorn or Joshua or Lisa. The list of possibilities is truly vast. Smiling

And this pretty keen lily lady Tracey! She's got some gems herself.
