I love to try growing things from seed. I would like to have a try at cactus. Does anyone a have dependable source for Cactus and Succulent seeds?

I am very leary at ordering any seed from amazon. Once burned as the saying goes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. - also posted in Cactus and Succulent and seeds forums.

I have bought seed here several times:

In general I've been pleased with them. Mistakes made with them were my own, not the supplier's.

That is a funny place. I have been there a couple of times and in both cases I was out wandering in their quite large nursery by myself. The first time I was never sure that there was anyone there, though they were open... the second time I managed to find someone to answer some questions and buy something.

They grow a lot of stuff out in the full sun, which is great because you know you will not have to be careful with it when you take it home just remember which side was facing south.

Have not tried any seeds from them, but their plants have been problem free.

That's interesting. I've never been there in person and I've bought only seeds.

Last year I called with a question and was shocked that the person who answered the phone knew all the Latin names off the top of her head and knew exactly what I was asking. I was impressed from that, because most nurseries in my experience aren't that nerdy.

I think it is probably one of the better cactus nurseries in the Phoenix area. Usually when you talk about cactus and succulent nurseries in Arizona you hear about the multitude of great nurseries in Tucson first, but Phoenix does have some good ones too.

Another good seed source is Koehres in Germany, and I have gotten some good seeds from Rare Palm Seeds.

Yeah, after some interesting experiences on eBay I have learned that while you can find great things on eBay (and probably amazon) you have to be really careful about the sellers because there is a lot of rubbish out there, so now if I buy seeds it is usually from places that I can easily determine to have a good reputation.

That list is from January. When you order seeds, be sure to ask about availability first. The list is not updated often once they put it out so some varieties sell out but are still listed for quite some time.
