Thread OP
West Yorkshire,UK
I have 5 bread trays formerly used by a commercial bakery for bread deliveries. These measure 65 cm x 55 cm x 20 cm deep & are stackable.I am considering linimg these & piercing them for drainage & place the pile in a south facing location & planting them. The top tray would of course recieve most light & sun but the location is very warm & sunny.I willwelcome any advice resuitable plants perhaps with a trailing nature to cover the trays themselves.I am in West Yorkshire UK

Welcome!
What an imaginative idea!
Trailing ivy, clematis,
Trays a little shallow.
I'm sure others will have better ideas.
Plant data base might be useful.

Hedera helix ivy comes in many forms and probably grow great there.
Plant it and they will come.

We tried using these as plant caddies when we went into NYC for the big orchid show in the spring. You would think that they were just perfect for something. I mean they had compartments, they were rigid BUT they were too shallow!
Eventually we abandoned them and just used them as trays to hold plants upright on a bench.

I would probably use that for succulents, but ideally it has to be grown outdoors, like haworthias, gasterias, sedums. These plants won't mind shallow containers, they just grow shallow roots. During winter time, you may bring it indoors to protect it from harsh winter conditions. My area has mild winters so I can leave them outdoors even during winter.

I recycled before a pastry pan and planted succulents in it and they enjoyed it. Just got to make the media gritty and well draining, container must have drain holes, top dress the soil to protect the base of the succulents from sitting in too wet media.

But eventually had to move them to new containers since the pastry pan eventually broke apart. And the plants are outgrowing my container.
