Squash Bug Eggs

By wildflowers
April 19, 2012

If you find squash bugs on your squash or other veggies in the garden, make it a point to look on the underside of the leaves where they have likely left eggs which will hatch in 5 to 10 days! Don't forget to remove the bugs and the eggs!

Great tip, Christine!

I take off the whole leaf when I see squash bug eggs or hatchlings and weight them down with a small rock in the bottom of a bucket of water. The next time I go out to check I just dump and refill the bucket. Smiling

I hadn't seen them much until last summer. If you do see one, look for the eggs on the underside of the leaves and rub them off. Soapy water will take care of the bugs! in case you didn't notice, those squash bugs in the pic aren't moving any more!! Whistling Hilarious! The brown was an adult and the gray, a developing nymph.

Horrible quality, taken with a phone. Is this black and red beetle one of these?

I agree Chelle, something about those things give me the Eeewwweees too! Hilarious!

Jake, that doesn't look like a squash bug to me either. Here's more pics of squash bug in all the stages - http://bugguide.net/node/view/...

there are so many beetles, it's hard to say what you have there. I can direct yo to Janet at BugLife, she can probably identify your beetle for you. Here's a link to the daily bug log where you can post your picture for ID ~ http://cubits.org/buglife/thre...
