And yes, I will see to it that coop-ette becomes a word! I love what you did. I also got a free rabbit hutch several years back and put it to use for my chickens and feral cats. It was pretty huge, with a solid frame, so I put in a "second story" floor (removable so I can get into the first floor to change cat bedding). The top half is screened in for the hens, who go in thru the front from their big hen run; the lower half is solid walls with a door cut in for the cats to access from the back. Both species love it. In the winter, I use the top (hen part) for straw storage; I wrap some plastic around it to protect the straw and the straw bales provide extra insulation for the cats below. Two of our feral feline friends use it all the time. I think it's great you were able to not only give a bunny a home but also repurpose his hutch for another group of friends!
And nothing but nothing makes better "black gold" for the garden than chickens and bunnies. I let my hens do all my composting for me. GREAT JOB! Thumbs up I tip my hat to you. Hurray!

Thank you so much. That's great the way you made use of the hutch for both chickens and cats. I've been wondering if there could be a way to house both rabbits and chickens but have been advised against it. Still researching...

I actually paid money to rent a truck from Home Depot to pick up this hutch and rabbit. It's the most expensive rabbit I have ever owned but...turns out he is a boy...all boy. Whoopie!! And I just happen to have 2 girl rabbits, well, I know one is a girl anyway. Time will tell.

Love the black gold for the garden, yes!! I'm a little short of plants to share at my local swap so I was gonna bag up some of the black gold and take it to the swap. That should make the local gardeners happy!! Hurray!

I think as long as you keep the species completely separated, there wont be a problem, but of course you also have to take into account their needs.

You should have seen me rolling that enormous wooden hutch up the hill BY MYSELF. The neighbors already knew I was weird, this must have convinced them they had a real loony on their hands "Remember Johnny, RUN past that crazy lady's house!"
