I bought this plant from Plant Delights nursery many years ago. It is a very unusual agave. I looked at their website recently and they no longer sell this. I can;t remember its name. Anyone know? Its completely hardy in zone 9A. The leaves are slender and filamentous and bushy. Not the usual stiff upright agave habit

Leaves are too thin for Agave geminiflora

Maybe Agave bracteosa?

It does not look like an Agave to me, but that does not mean it isn't.
It is what it is!

Leaves on bracteosa are rough on the surface, not glossy. They are a paler green, sometimes yellowish; more obviously triangular (lanceolate, wider at the base, tapering gradually); symmetric around the base; recurved (arching back toward the ground); and less numerous in the rosette. The crown of bracteosa typically has a squid-like appearance.

I do not know what the mystery plant could be, but I also suspect it may not be an agave. Maybe try contacting PDN?

It didn't look like an Agave to me either but I'm not all that familiar with them so I just searched for "Narrow Leaf Agave". Smiling

My first thought when I saw the photo was that it reminded me of a Bromeliad, like Tillandsia.

I would bet money that it's a monocot. Smiling

The narrow leafed agaves that I've seen (and there are a few) tend to have stiff, rigid leaves.

It isn;t a bromeliad. The broms I have in that bed are all Dyckias. I will have to send the photo to PDN and ask them. I know it was listed as an agave. But its been too many years for my old mind to recall LOL

Baja_Costero, I bought several plants from PDN that were supposedly hardy where I live. Some cool (and relatively expensive) agaves, some Mangaves, other stuff....a lot did not survive and I live in 9A. I think maybe it was too wet. But this plant has been absolutely bullet proof so I really want to know what it is LOL

Plant Delights keep good records, you could request a list of plants purchased from them.

The way the top young leaves wraps each others at the base and the way they curls just like it was water depleted, kind of reminds me more of a Nolina, one with undrground caudex like Nolina greenei, or even N bigelovii, or other beargrass...? can you check the underground caudex...? at least the underground structures of Agaves, Bromelids or Nolinas might be distinguishable...also does the edge of leaves smooth or with teeth?

The growth habit does resemble that of Nolina:

Plantladylin, I can say with absolute certainty that I have never had a Nolina. Ornamental grasses and me don't exactly go together lol

OK I sent the photo to PDN see if they get back to me. The ONLY other thing I can even believe it may be is a Puya.

LOL, yes ... Puya is another one that it resembles! Keep us posted if you hear back from Plant Delights as to the identity!

There are a few photos at our database entry for Bromeliad (Puya alpestris) Some look to have grass-like leaves with smooth margins, while others appear to have sharp teeth along the margins. These look like entirely different plants to me but maybe it's just my eyes?

Thanks! I am a work in progress, still need to get the color done on the tattoo, too much going on this year. Got some other cactus/succulent related designs in mind.

Could it be a Beschorneria? That is in the Agave family...
