Thread OP

Hello everyone! My mom just received a few pieces of this succulent from a relative in Florida. We've been looking online trying to figure out what is and have been totally unsuccessful. Hoping you all can give us a few leads!

I think it's a Huernia species, possibly Red Dragon Flower (Huernia schneideriana). You will know for sure when it flowers.

Here is a pic of mine flowering last year.

Welcome!

I think suggesting such a positive ID on your cutting while it is nothing more than a cutting is pretty risky. I would not hazard such a guess and I am a pretty experienced cactus/succulent grower.

It is some sort of Stapeliad for sure but until you root it and see flowers and growth habit/size, I would stick with some sort of Stapeliad.

Good call... though I see no risk in speculation, unless you let it influence how you are going to care for it, which it this case, probably will not.

Aj122 probably did not view your answer as speculation.

I'm sure they did as I said, "I think" and "You will know for sure when it flowers.".. Thanks for your input though. Smiling

The word "probably" made it clear to me that it was a suggestion, not a positive ID.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I did take Zach's comment as a suggestion, as he did state that he "thinks" it is as such, as well as yours Daisyl. Right now we're just trying to root it. Fingers crossed, it'll catch and start growing nicely. We will see what happens when and if it blooms!!! I'll do some research on the different varieties. Thanks a bunch!!!
