Yawn. Ursula is on the ball this morning! I'm off to answer phones at the Extension Service, then on to do a library talk at 6:30 this evening. That library is at least 50 miles from my house so I'll get home late. I have pics to post but must find some time.

I am not playing with the girls today, so I can do a bit more posting this morning.
Dendrobium aggregatum - a little taste of things to come, it is opening 6 spikes this season.


Dendrobium distichum is not a plant I would buy for its gorgeous large blooms, but the teensy little flowers actually add to the charm of the "braided "leaves.


There is one last cluster of blooms on my Dendrobium smilliae. What a performer, it truly kept going for months!


My Leptotes bicolor has never done as nice as this year. So here it is again, I am enjoying it. Strange that the blooms on this plant never seem to resupinate.

I am at the Extension between phone calls. Ursula, I think I like your regular Dendrobium smilliae better than my alba version. The hint of pink sets it off. The D. aggregatum is beautiful. I love this form of Dendrobium. It seems like your Leptotes bicolor has been blooming for a long time. Great plant.

It means you need to pick up another Den smiliae? It is pretty I think, but could imagine that the alba form might grow on you in the meanwhile....
You see, last year I did pick up another really small Leptotes bicolor, because this one bloomed in succession and never ever put on a nice show. Now this year it is showing off right next to the small newcomer ( also in bloom).....

I put in 13 and a half MG hours yeasterday and I was tired when I finally got home. Too much for an old retired guy like me.

I'll start off with my big Grammatophylum scriptum. I'm a little disappointed as it only put out one spike this year. I've had as many as six. Each spike is three feet long and has about 50 flowers or so. The plant itself is about the size of a bowling ball and about as heavy as well.


Here is a NOID Dendrobium that was begging to have its picture taken.


And my favorite, Dendrobium anosmum.


After taking a month or so off, the Spathoglottis plicata are starting to rebloom.

Oh my gosh, Ursula...your Phrag Allison Strohm is unbelievable ...just beautiful!

I found a couple of new bloomers today. This is Lc Prism Palette X (Gaiety Flambeau X MECarter) X walkeriana. I bought it as a re-potting special from Jim Krull up in Apopka about a year ago when I was there with Laurel and Steve. It seems to have adjusted well to its new pot and home.


My Bollopetalum Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost' took a couple of weeks off and then promptly put out a new spike. Note the second picture was taken with a flash which made a big color change.

Thanks Lindsey! I really enjoy this Phrag a lot. The blooms both measure 7 inches across now and the color is really pretty in the sunshine, I think.

Ursula your phrag is just lovely. That's one I'm not going to attempt, as I'm growing outdoors and Florida summer being what it is, probably it would not survive. But Jim gave me a lovely plant of Encyclia Tampensis aka 'The Florida Butterfly Orchid' that is on the verge of bursting into bloom. Stay tuned.

I love that Bollopetalum, and I have the same one, but it still has no leaves. Green pb's though, so it's not dead yet! I plan to give it the 'hide in the garden' treatment for the summer, and if it emerges with leaves at some point, all's well.

Meanwhile, my Enc. alata X Early Bird has all its flowers open, and I'm still enjoying a few little flowers on my Tolumnia collection.

Very nice Encyclia, Elaine. I tell you I have the Encyclia bug and I can see my buying shoes beginning to smoke over in the closet.

Elaine, your Enc. alata X Early Bird is beautiful, I'm not familiar with that plant is it large? Fussy about it's environment?
I have a mess of plants blooming in the extreme heat of the greenhouse this week..I've got to move them outside and soon!

Lindsey, you have a very pretty show going on there. I agree, that very last one is particularly beautiful.

Btw I tried to fix the missing thumbnail/ looked for a missing bracket. I think that picture simply didn't upload...

Fabulous array of flowers there, Lindsay. 'Dawn Light' is a sublime color. In the pic of 'Burgundy Bliss' the flower on the right is much darker red, did the camera wash out the other two, or do they fade to that color? Still lovely, mind you.

My Enc. is a small delicate plant in a 3in. pot with the longest leaves about 9in. long and an inch wide. Flowers are under 2in. across and the flower stalk is 16in but thin. I really don't know how big it will get, I've only had it a couple of months. In this pic, the flower stem is leaning towards the camera so it's a bit out of proportion. (not to mention out of focus, sorry!)
