Anyone growing any dischidia? This is one of mine, an unusual one called Dischidia sp. 'Crested'

I used to grow Dischidia pectinoides for some years, but it kicked the bucket a couple of years ago. Interesting plant with those pillow shaped "ant houses".

I had that and loved it. Lost it too. I may try to get it back, but unsure...I already have an orchid that houses an ant colony, and I am not certain I want to house more that may start trying to farm scale on my foliage plants!

Yes! Under my conditions I never did see any ants in it, but I could imagine that those shapes are occupied in a more natural environment.

The only one I've ever grown is D. ruscifolia. I can't remember if it's one that I gave away when we downsized and moved or if it was left for the people we sold the house to.

Thanks Gina, it was a great plant and grew like gangbusters over the 6 or 7 years that I had it.

You know, that one rings a bell! I remember picking up one of those actually established on a ca 1 foot heart (at an Orchid show Smiling ) and it grew straight down in strands from there. I liked it very much, but mine was nowhere near as nice as yours, Lin.

This is my most favorite of the ones I have, D. ovata. I like the watermelon stripes LOL. The second photo is the invasive D. sp. Geri (formerly known as D. oiantha). You can see its out of hand just a little, it will be dripping down off that plumeria in a month

Lin and Ursula,
I appreciate your kind comments. It seems I am discovering new stuff in nooks and crannies of the greenhouse every day. Stuff that had fallen on the ground and rooted, mounted plants stuck back somewhere....I have made a promise to myself to make it lovely again!

Not a dischidia, but an unusual hoya that can be grown as a total epiphyte like a dischidia....just recently found what is left of my 'used-to-be' fairly substantial Hoya kanyakicariana. This little piece was still clinging to a mossed tree fern slab that had fallen out of something. It is making a comeback, leaves no longer withered up and yellow, getting greener and fatter. Once it puts on some bulk will remount it and hang it. Its currently sharing space with a couple of back bulbs of an unidentified Bulbophyllum orchid

I had a small Wax Plant (Hoya kanyakumariana) that I received in a trade about ten years ago but it didn't live long.

This one used to be a looker maybe one day it will be again its kind of slow growing anyway and my neglect sure didn't help. I can't believe autocorrect butchered my spelling of the name like that and I didn't catch it

Hey there Gina, how are the new additions acclimating? Loving the albiflora!
I noticed you said that Geri is invasive? Picked up a healthy one from my market plant lady this weekend.

I wouldn't let it get started attaching to anything. I cut down and threw about a wheelbarrow full into the woods, mounted 2 plaques to restart at a more civilized pace. It was smothering a plumeria, some bromeliads, some orchids and showed no signs of stopping, but it has been there for literally a decade.

I have already propagated the ones you got for me! Have one plaque of each mounted and doing well, as the mothers grow I will propagate further!
