Hi!
I am a new Daylily Enthusiast. When is the best time to place an order for Daylilies for 2019? Or should I ask, when do most Daylily Growers start to take orders for 2019?

Have you tried the Lily Auction yet? It's a horrible addiction for me, but I love that I can buy daylilies throughout the winter, and they all ship in Spring. Adding to an existing shipment from the same seller is generally only a few more dollars in shipping, so you're not paying $10 - $15 every time you win one.

If you haven't discovered it yet, there are several threads in this forum discussing the auction and sellers.

Quite a few of us sell daylilies on FB pages, I use Daylily and Seedlings Sales page each spring and fall. You do have to ask to join but a whole bunch of us who used to sell on the LA sell there now. We start listing in early Feb. ( and some may even start sooner) for spring delivery. Lots of good sakes going on there!! IVe purchased from Subhana Ansari, Bonnie Nichols, Nikki SChmith, etc. there. The Bishops, Mel Campbell and others also sell there!! Elaine Seifert moderates the page, and helps keep it safe for. Otha buyers and sellers. Highly recommend!!

For new intros, you can buy those for spring delivery as soon as they list them for sale!! New ones are always more$$$, however. I've already succumbed a couple times, LOL.

Blue Ridge Daylilies also sell on facebook under Daylily Deals of the day Sales. Eric Simpson and Robert Selman list several albums everyday. They are shipping now, but not sure for how long as they are in Asheville, North Carolina. They send huge plants and bonuses as well. I've ordered twice this summer/fall.

Kathy Fowler sells on facebook under Kathy's Daylilies Sales. She sends big beautiful clumps every time. I've also ordered from Bonnie Nichols, Michelle Culp, and Elaine Seifert on Daylily and Seedlings Sales page on facebook. All of those send fantastic plants.

I've gotten plants in the spring and the fall...both do well for me. Those received in the fall will usually bloom for me in the spring. Those received in the spring will usually bloom later than normal. Planting would depend upon your location and weather. I'm still planting now as my weather is still warm and frost is not expected until December.

You were an Angel to tell me about Romanian Rhapsody for sell on the Blue Ridge Daylily Facebook site. I got the last one, by the way.

I just received a dump truck load of 50/50 (topsoil/compost) for my new Daylily bed. All I have to do is till it again today and plant later this evening.

I only brought up the Lily Auction because you can buy there all winter long; buying from the websites depends on when they put up their 2019 inventory, which varies according to the individual site. (One of my favorite places doesn't update until about April.)
Your best bet is to either keep checking until the website you have chosen has updated for 2019, or send an email inquiring about the plants you want and whether those would be available for sale in Spring.

It's definitely best to do it as early as possible. I've found that if I wait until closer to Spring, a lot of things are sold out, even though they are still listed as available on the website.

Here's the thing about those Facebook pages: while there are some amazing things listed, they go very quickly. I belong to several FB groups, but I'm thinking of leaving them because by the time I see the listings for the things I want, they're always sold out. I've seen a lot of Subhana's listings posted 20 minutes earlier that were completely gone. I've only managed to catch ONE listing -- albeit a GREAT one -- because I just happened to log in at the exact time he listed it.
It's a great option if you have a lot of time to spend on Facebook, but if not it can be very frustrating.

PS I'm retired, so if there's something you are looking for, I can either alert you or tell them it's sold to you. Please advise.

My favorite way to keep track of when hybridizers have updated their websites is through Charlotte's Daylily Diary. The main page lists daylily nurseries.

Almost every notable hybridizer is represented, with links to their sites, and in the upper right corner of the page there is a scrolling list of the most recently updated websites. It's a good place to start your day.

Angela, I'm glad you were able to get the last fan of Romanian Rendevous.

A lot of sites will sell now for spring shipping. Sometimes you forget what you ordered until a box arrives on your door in the spring. Northern Lights will begin selling mid November for May 2019 shipping. They sell single fans at very reasonable prices for most...some as low as 4.99, but I received huge double and triple fans on every plant ordered. I think they pot plant single fans in the fall and place them in a greenhouse...they send everything in the pot including the increase. Park Lane daylilies has a wonderful Lily Reserve Policy. You send them a list of the plants you would like shipped in the spring. They check availability and tag your plants. In May, prior to shipping they send out invoices. If you still want the plants, you pay the invoice, and if not you let them know. It's a no money now and no obligation later policy. They send excellent plants as well. Kathy Maynard, the owner is a jewel.

I emphatically agree with this! Great plants, and communication with her is a pleasure. I already have my Spring 2019 plants reserved. I think more daylily websites should do this!

Angela, are you referring to Northern Lights? I'm not sure why they do that, but I think it might be that everything is marked "Sold Out" until their 2019 inventory is up.

Angela I have purchased more than once from Northern Lights and they have awesome plants, but they won't be updating their 2019 site for a little while yet. I always keep my eyes open for when you can start purchasing there because their prices are good and I always have great plants.
But now I have to look at Park Lane
