A 2018 introduction. Bench score average of 3 was 86.04, trial garden average of 3 was 87.03. True purple with a bluish reverse. However, it is not an ideal garden plant. Initial blooms were outstanding, later blooms were a disappointment. The lateral blooms are especially disappointing: weak stems and flowers with open centers. My guess is that if you are showing this dahlia, the lateral buds never see the light of day. The American Dahlia Society's focus is on showing dahlias. Members register dahlias so they can be shown. Usually, show dahlias do great in the garden, but not always. Here is an early photo...

Here is an heirloom that I stopped growing last year

Dahlia 'Jersey Beauty'

An heirloom variety from New Jersey. Old House Gardens in Michigan carries it. It's a tall skinny plant (somewhat ugly) that has beautiful pink flowers. Saving the tubers over Winter can be iffy. My plants have never generated large tuber clumps. I have been growing this dahlia since 2009.

I culled this one because it started to produce more and more irregular blooms... however, I did keep it for 8 years:)

Dahlia 'A La Mode', Common Name: Orange Blend Formal Decorative Dahlia, Size: 4ft., B-FD-OR/W Class(2015) Awards(50), Breeder: (SWI,1993), USDA Hardiness Zone 8, Michigan Bloom Month 8

B-FD-BI. Not sure why I purchased this dahlia (2009), but it turned out to be a strong grower and a very attractive plant (and a favorite). Medium size tubers. Flower colors are sometimes irregular.
