Everyone has those lilies whose names have been forgotten,
and everyone has those lilies that just seem to disappear into the ether, not having a clue what happened to them,
and some have those lilies that just seem to appear out of the ether.

So this story goes:

And to make it short, this lily (L. longiflorum x L. henryi?) had disappeared from my radar, couldn't find it or the label anywhere, yet it grew and bloomed for years right under my nose (or more accurately, over my head). I just never dreamed it might look like this, so I thought it was somehow an aurelian that slipped my brain.

So I am tired of this plain jane, and I just dug it up. Nice healthy giant bulbs, that would sustain me for days (if only they tasted good Big Grin ). And with them, up came the "missing" label.

I am still skeptical, as I see no longiflorum influence, not in the flower, not in the foliage and not in the bulb. I know this one has been mentioned before, L. longiflorum x L. henryi, and I suspect someone(s) here grow it. What were your results?

Rick, I grow it and it is white. Yours looks like straight henryi to me.

Yes that's what I had originally thought, except the seed pods aren't squat like straight henryi. Thy are much longer and narrower. Definitely a hybrid of some kind.

Incidentally, I couldn't bring myself to tossing these huge bulbs. They are replanted in more "hostile" environments to test the vigor.

I agree with you, Rich, I don't think they are longiflorum-hybrids. My experience is that the seedling get the shape of the flower from the mother.
