Different classes of succulents with chew spots but not every plant was hit.

I would suspect birds or rodents.

In West Sacramento, most likely rats, not rabbits.

There are a ton of feral cats around as I'm right next to the river. I have seen no mice or rats...squirrels, opossums & raccoons all put up a decent fight against a cat so I'm leaning towards squirrels? For me, the holes & triangle cut marks make what's doing it less obvious.

Based on that, it does seem that birds may be in part responsible. We have regular visits from birds and ground squirrels on the patio here and they seem to go after the succulents for water as much as anything. The birds leave different marks than the squirrels. They tend to stab more and nibble less, judging from the aftermath.
