Hello everyone! I was just curious as to if anyone knew the actual name (scientific or common) for this guy. Its are brighter hot pink/magenta wandering jew. I wasn't sure if it had its own name or what. So far I've just been calling it a pink tradescantia zebrine but I'd love to update my tag to reflect the correct name!

I'm not sure that "Pat' Smiling or 'Terry' is a different strain, but just that the leaf color depends on conditions.
Plant it and they will come.

I also have traditional marked ones in the same area getting the same light, water, soil, etc. So if that were the case wouldn't they look identical?

Just for reference here is a cutting of my traditional tradescantia zebrina next to the pink one (traditional one is in my hand). In a facebook group I'm in someone just mentioned it may be a Tradescantia Zebrina "Purpusii" which when I google photos it looks similar but I can't find a lot of reputable information about it

I am not an expert but it does seem to me that if it is a pink one, it is a pink one.

I mean in all fairness conditions can cause a different "look" to a plant Smiling I have gotten some cuttings of the standard variety in the past that had a dull pink look to them

Aren't there some plants that you can change the color of by adding different minerals to the soil?

Yes things like hydrangeas come to mind around here. Depending on the acidity level of the soil determines bloom color. I'm not positive on others. I know some plants can be duller looking or less variegated depending on the conditions. Like the normal tradescantia zebrina's they get super muted color when they not in good light and soil

I have a purple and a burgundy one & am also trying to figure out the scientific name for it so I can add them to my plant list properly. Definitely 2 different colors. I found someone on another site that has 12 different colors but doesn't list the scientific names.

This is the generic one (like ones that don't have a cultivar name). I'd put it here:

Inch Plant (Tradescantia zebrina)
