I was STUNNED and saddened to learn of GardenersWorld.com (UK) shutting down their garden forums recently. I used to belong there, trying to learn from the great rose gardeners in the UK. Magnificent photo viewing there (would be an understatement). A lot of really nice folks on those forums, too, from the UK, France, Spain and other countries. Sigh. I recognize a few of those folks there posting here from time to time. Perhaps many more of them will migrate over to these forums? That would be a GOOD thing, as Martha Stewart always says. Smiling

I missed out. I didn't realize there were forums there. Do you know if you're still able to access archived forums? Such a wealth of knowledge that's lost if it's all deleted.

Not that I can discern, @christie8swmo. I'm truly bummed about this. Exactly what happened when my favorite low-carb cooking forum (LowCarbFriends), with some incredibly talented, experimental chefs and bakers, was dumped by their host site with 30 days notice. We were grabbing copies of all major threads and recipes there non-stop to try to save them. I don't even think GW gave their members 30 days notice!

I tried doing a search at GW and it pulled up none of the archived conversations.

To be fair, there is still a wealth of information to be had on the site, but you just have to click on topics, plants and plant groups to get at it. I doubt any of the info members provided is accessible anymore. So sad.

Perhaps @DoghouseRiley, a member here and also a former member there at one time (I recognize his gorgeous garden photos he shares here) could offer some info on the forum closure.

I hadn't known about the site before this, but it sounds like it would have been very useful help from members with hands-on experience, much like here. And it's a shame to lose all the knowledge. They could have shut down the forums to stop any future posts but kept the info on the site archived for those who wanted to access past info, even if for a limited time to give members a chance to pull what info they wanted to hang onto, like 6 months or so... the limited notice and time they gave was certainly not enough.

You might try to find some posts through The Wayback Machine, it looks like quite a few captures were saved of the site over the past several years.

I did find this statement through The Wayback Machine:

Gardeners World Forum was an independent company which paid the BBC to use their name. I guess it became an unprofitable enterprise.

What a shame. Thanks, @Murky and @DoghouseRiley. Will miss seeing their lovely garden photo posts, and chatting with a few of the folks there. We have many talented gardeners right here equally enjoyable to chat with.
