My cucumbers have already been producing like crazy, this from a smaller trellis section. The ones on the bigger trellis are ones I started from seed myself so coming later. But I just mulched the cucumber row with fresh staw as I saw some weeds starting. Pulled up the weeds and mulched. As I was working I could see there are soooooo many baby cukes coming along that I will be swimming in them when those are big enough to pick.

Oh man. Here are some Yard LongBeans that stayed on the vine too long before I picked them. Pods all bumpy which means they are rubbery and not good tasting for eating. Threw them in the compost pile.

The red noodles are ok. I picked them in time!

NO...! Say it ain't so! Rita, you should've saved those "bumpy" Yardlong beans for next years seed stock. Bean seeds are the easiest seed to harvest.

Your Red Noodles look good. Have you tried them yet? I haven't developed a taste for them (yet) but would like to hear your input.

I am not much good at this seed saving thing.

I did try the red noodle. Has a stronger taste to me than the green. Of the three that I have (red noodle, green noddle and aspargus bean, I really LOVE the Aspargus bean. Red Noodle I rate last in my taste test. But those asparagus beans are definately, definately going to be planted next year. Since this is my first try at Yard Longs I wanted to try a few different varieties to see for myself which I liked better.

I actually like the Asparagus bean better than the Blue Lake Pole Beans I have been growing for years.

Well.. saving bean seed is as simple as drying it out. That's it.

I'm with you, Red Noodle seems to be best in a stir fry, not cooked as one would do regular snap beans.

I'll have to give Asparagus bean a try sometime. Have any pics available?
