My orchids will enjoy fresh rain water and there is even a planter in the top. Good progress today...pics later.

It was a productive day today. They installed the solid roof over the seating area and a couple of more trusses in the greenhouse area. It is really starting to come together.

They just finished framing the west end. Note the exhaust fan.

I hooked up the down spout to the rain barrel today so it is all set to go. I'll be watering mostly with rain water. I posted a picture of it on May 10th.

The structure will have sliding windows with screens so I can close it up in the winter. The roof will be corrugated polycarbonate pannels that let in 80 percent of the light.

Jim, Are you going to have any heat in the winter, or do you think it will stay warm enough at night with the windows closed? I would think the pool may act as a heat sink and moderate the temps overnight.

Good question, Bill. I don't know until I get some experience with it. I'm guessing I won't need any supplemental heat but will have to play it by ear. I'm just as concerned with how hot it will get in the summer. I put in a big exhaust fan but who knows.

Jim, I wouldn't think you would need supplimental heat in the winter. Is your garage heated? Between the pool and the sun, it should stay warm enough. You may need more fans in the summer though. Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree, Carol. I will have to play with the exhaust fan and the windows. I had a whole-house exhaust fan when I lived in San Antonio. We would open just one window and turn it on and it would cool the house down in an instant. I'm hoping this will be the same way. The pool will help cool in the summer as well as heat in the winter. Truth is, I just don't know yet.

By the way, the framing is finished and the roof panels and windows have been ordered. Nothing much will happen until they arrive.

Jim, you may also want to consider some shade cloth for the sunniest area or the hottest time of the year, something that wouldn't be too hard
to put up and take down.
