What is the name for the almost metallic looking flecks on some bearded? Is this common? Here's BB-Blackbeard.

I'm not sure, but I like it!

Diamond dusting. It's pretty common on modern iris, especially the lighter colored ones.

I love that -- "diamond dusting"!! Lovey dubby Several of my Iris photographs clearly show this -- I wondered if all Irises have it, and I just hadn't noticed.................

Not all--whites seem to have it more frequently, or we just notice it.

Thanks Kent, Lucy. Took a magnifying glass out to look more closely. Any ideas if there's a species in the mix that has passed this down?

Quite common on daylilies, too. Amazing, isn't it? Daylily hybridizers strive for it, I don't know if any of the iris hybridizers are.

They mention it if diamond dust is there.

Sometime it's on the registration, Mary Ann. I don't see it registered much, though, especially on ones I know have it. Maybe Lucy is speaking of some other place they mention it.

I had a Jedlicka iris that I received as a bonus one year that was heavily diamond dusted. I will have to look up the name.

Here's a link to some nice pictures of diamond dusting:

Here's Oblivion. Is this D Dusting? I was blaming pollen and having a difficult time getting a decent full sun pic. Especially of the falls.

Well, I have several that are diamond-dusted -- and I have photos that clearly show this -- but do you think I can find them to show you? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. But I didn't know that it was a *thing* -- know what I mean? I thought it was just a trick of the camera that showed up in close-ups in sunlight. I'm gonna go look at your link now, Polly.

It is usually mentioned in ads at introduction time, or reports in the iris magazine.

Some daylilies even have "gold dusting," which I really love although I can't think of any at the moment. I know I saw one within the last few weeks, though. Do any iris have gold dusting?
