Yes. But it's not bad. My mom just found a Burgundy one in her yard that she didn't plan. I think I snuck it in there last year. LOL.

I bought three Burgundy and they did very well. Almost too well. They came back HUGE the next year, and even more HUGE last year. Then they reseeded everywhere, and I spend months pulling them up. So, I kicked them out and told them that they had to go live with the neighbors. They are just as happy at her house as they were at mine, and she needs all the seedlings that she can get, so she's thrilled.

I had no luck at all with Lemons and Oranges, and it's my favorite. I collected seed from it and they didn't grow! Just my luck! However, I've got a bunch of seedlings growing in the flower bed, and I'm hopeful that one of them is Lemons and Oranges.

Oranges and Lemons is beautiful. Green Grin! I noticed they are only hardy to zone 5 and from what I hear they exaggerate on the zones. Also the flowers are sterile. The funny thing is that I cannot find one place where it has over-wintered, all comments about this plant seem to be negative about overwintering, even people in zone 8 and 9 can not get them to over winter. If you really like the plant, just buy it cheep and treat it like an annual. Thumbs up

I'm in zone 5a, so I thought that they should have survived. I also planted them next to the edge of my "crop circle" in the front yard so that they would get extra heat from the rocks, but it still didn't help. As for being sterile, I did harvest some seed and actually got it to grow, so I'm not sure that that would be accurate. I planted them over at my Mom's house and they haven't bloomed yet, but they do have buds on them. I'm positive that I didn't mix the plants or seeds up when I collected the seeds, as I have no other Gaillardia near where this one was, and I didn't collect seeds from any of the others that I have.

They are so unique looking to me. If it's true that they are sterile, is there a chance that mine wasn't marked right and I had something that looked similar?

Edited to say that in my previous post I said that the seeds didn't grow, but they did. They just didn't reseed all over like the others that I've had. I don't think I found one seedling anywhere near the plant. Yep, I've lost my mind! I had to check my records!

I know what you mean! They should have survived, funny thing is hearing people in zone 8 say the same thing! If you got sprouts then you should be ok, they might not be true but I'm sure they will be pretty.
Proven winners website has it listed as a annual. Whistling

Nice photo. I am liking 'Arizona Apricot.' It's a seed variety and would be great for people who like 'Oranges and Lemons' but can't get it to live.

virginiarose, I glad to hear that it's being listed as an annual, and the honesty about it is refreshing! I wouldn't have bought it if it was listed as such. Oh heck, I would have anyway, because I totally loved it! I haven't seen any for sale this year here. I guess too many businesses got too many complaints about it not being hardy here!

Clint, I'll have to look into that one! I'd love anything that's close to Lemons and Oranges that will survive!

Can't wait to see what the seedling looks like. I wish now that I had kept it at my house instead of planting it at my Mom's. It's probably going to start to open and then die!

Santa Rosa still has some on sale. Maybe next spring you can keep them in mind and just get you a few at a good price.

Gardengus, that's a beauty! Another one to add to the list if it's hardy here!
