A couple first blooms on seedlings. Nothing too fancy, but a decent start to the season.

I agree with Betty. The first seedling is lovely. I am a fan of big, round and ruffled, but that one really appeals to me. Congrats!

Dr. Hilliard Lawler is the hybridizer of the beautiful pink KATHERINE CALDWELL that Lyle and I like so much. When I corresponded with Dr. Lawler about it after he sent it to me as a gift plant he told me that Katherine Caldwell was his hybridizing mentor and had recently passed away in her 90's. And I remember that Lyle has won an award with it too. I think it's really a beautiful daylily, and the flowers are very large and pure pink.



I love his SIMPLE MAGIC too -- this is the first time I've seen a picture of it, but I love the coloring.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I really like the cascade UFs so the first one appeals to me too. The sepals on the 2nd one started twisting later in the day, which made it a little more interesting.

Michele, Josie Bomar is with Jack Carpenter and has hybridized quite a few dips. Hilliard Lawler is a vet who lives down in Mississippi and used to sell on the lily auction--he sent Simple Magic as a bonus. I think I remember seeing Lyle mention that Katherine Caldwell was one of Hilliard Lawler's, but I might be remembering wrong :~)

Daylilies are starting to come on here in Kansas. Cool mornings are affecting the opening of some, and I've got lots of leaf streak this year, but still some really pretty daylilies!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words! It's been hard to get many good photos so far this season because of cool mornings. Usually I have very few daylilies blooming before mid June but this is a strange year--I don't think the daylilies enjoy cool mornings as much as I do....
