As for the purpurata, the lip seems to be a little darker today. Perhaps she just awoke and hasn't put on her lipstick yet. Hilarious!

Jim, RHS does not list any hybrid with that parentage. Your plant is simply GORGEOUS!!

About the L. purpurata - to put it into perspective, please have a look at Mauro Rosim's post on the subject.
http://forum.theorchidsource.c...
He talks about the fact that there are more than 150 varieties of L. purpurata!! Take a look at his selection and read on.
Btw here is no such thing as the "real purp", Smiling but there is such a thing as the 'tipo'/type of species. In the case of L. purpurata it is described as " having white petals and sepals and a purple lip".

(And in addition, perhaps growing under higher/lower temperatures may even cause small changes in shade?)

And Bulbophyllum mastersianum is blooming. I had bought it from aaorchids in March, I was surprised to see it blooming already.

Ursula, I love the bulbo and I know how difficult it was to get that picture of Nageliella. You had the color and the mcro working against you.

Bree, it's good to see some of your wonderful Paphs again. I hope you are back in business. Ref the purp discussions, I agree with Ursula. Learning is not a bad thing.

I just got this orchid last Saturday, 02Jun when we went to the San Jose Orchid Expo at the Winchester Mystery House. The name it has on the tag: Wils. Hilda Plumtree 'Purple Wings' HCC/AOC. Buds looked almost open and luckily it did not blast reaching home Hurray! being a hot day in the low 90's, and we still had to drive elsewhere leaving it in the car for awhile before heading home:

It's beautiful, Tarev. Funny they should call it "Purple Wings" when it looks like it's all red and yellow, or is that just the picture? Love that Paph, too Bree.

I have one tiny new bloom open today, Howeara Lava Burst 'Puanani' has a big long spike with at least a dozen buds, and I have another of the same plant with two more spikes!

This pale lilac Spathoglottis is the energizer orchid. Keeps going and going. My other purple ones haven't started yet, but they went for months, too.

Hi Elaine,

Yup, the color really looks red orangey over yellow..I am also wondering why Purple Wings, ....it does remind me of a bigger version of an Oncidium Dancing Lady with colors reversed, Dancing Lady being more yellow with a little red orange. Big Grin

Hm, that reminds me - this little fellow keeps on blooming, too. I've been waiting for it to take a break so I can re-pot it since February. Had it tucked away out of sight while I was away, and here it is, still going.
