I know this forum is for Butterflies, birds and bees, but it's the closest thing to a bug forum I can find here and I figure you folks are all smart about bugs.. I saw this tiny critter munching on aphids on a rose and it looks like a tiny mantis to me, but is it really? I see no wings.

Hmmm..it looks like a big grasshopper...maybe...

It turns out it is an assassin bug. I didn't know we had those here.

Interesting name..it does look mean with its long beak...it must be waiting to ambush the little insect shown on the lower part of your photo
