My Midnight has often been a real disappointment, but with the cool weather early this week, the buds were very purple and the bloom fairly dark.
Thumb of 2012-06-03/stilldew/04a8ee
The inside of the flower today is more pink striped than purple.

Just for fun, here is a photo of the area between the street and sidewalk taken a month ago during Iris season. I have no problems growing Iris, lilies and daylilies are in the same area.

Susan, did you smell Kentucky? Mine aren't blooming yet, but I remember from last year a lovely scent. You have some beauties there, and what a gorgeous yard!

Nice lilies opening for June.

Ahhh Susan, the'Midnight' disappointment. I wonder if it is a soil or temperature difference, or exactly what it is that makes what Judith grows there so wonderful and deep colored. You might remember that mine looks just like yours Susan. No depth of color here, but I still thought it was a very nice trumpet, just not at all what I was expecting or hoping for, you know?

Great start of June you guys. Am enjoying all the lilies so far. I'm just not quite that far along with bloom time yet.

Tracey, I put four Midnight in this Spring. We'll have to see how mine turn out. I probably shouldn't be making a statement on only a foot tall newly planted example, but one has a green(er) stem--for whatever that may lead to after I've grown them a full year here--we'll have to just wait and see. It may turn out to be a wonderfull surprise--like the one of three Summer Palace I've got here. I jumped with joy--I was so happy for that! Outside of common border Pixies; looks like Carmine Diamond will be my first LA to post here in a couple days.

How tall are everyone's Midnights? I don't think mine have ever gotten above 3 feet and no more that 2-3 blooms per stem.
