This may be an option and I have not found it yet. But is there a way to post a pic without having to click on the link to see the pic?

If this is possible which code should I use?

You can post a pic by clicking on the "Upload an image" button right below where you are typing. It will then open a dialog box where you can find the image on your computer. That'll add the image right to your post. Preview the image and you'll see it shows up.

Do the images still have to be on our own computer?

Generally, yes. The system can't go grab them off another site. But you can save it from another site to your computer, upload it here, then delete it from your computer.

You'd want to make sure you have permission, of course, if the image isn't yours to begin with.

So Cinta, you can't add a web link directly from Photobucket or any other outside photo hosting site, mostly because ATP doesn't want a lot of broken links when photos from those outside sources are removed from their online photo albums later on down the line. You see that on other sites that allow outside links and it's quite disappointing not to mention unprofessional looking.

Ok, I understand. If it is not on my computer any longer then I cannot post the pic. I cannot keep that many pics on the computer. So I put them in a photo storage site.

Did you notice this part? So if you want to earn acorns by uploading photos to the DB, you can just retrieve them temporarily from your storage site. (I'm assuming you're referring to your own photos.)

But, you can only do that if you have immediate access to your computer. I think more and more people are using mobile devices- iPads, iPhones, other tablets and smart phones. And the computer might not be where I am at the time. When I travel, my iPad is my computer. And, honestly, if I'm relaxing on my porch, surfing with my iPad, am I going to go into the house, get on the computer, grab and save a picture... no way! I'm going to stay outside. Shrug!

I think we probably miss a lot of opportunities for posted pictures by not having access to a photo site on ATP. When I'm on vacation, I'm still posting photos on GardenWeb, but I'm not posting them on ATP.

And GardenWeb is full of empty Photobucket links. Not pretty.

Those pictures are only lost if the photobucket account owner deletes the photo. Photobucket doesn't do it. I guarantee you that you won't find any of my posts like that. And I've belonged to GW since 2004.

Yes, I know that's why it happens, there are plenty of people that do shift photos around or delete them years later without thinking how it affects their previous posts.

I could program the system to let you embed an image from offsite and when you do it, it downloads the image and saves it locally...

What a great solution. Mobile friendly and no "empty" links. The Great and Powerful Wizard of, ...ahem..., Dave strikes again.

Sounds like a good solution.

I'm not a tech-savvy person. I'll be 60 next month, and I trail the world in terms of all things computers. But to keep up and stay competitive , it does seem any site needs to accommodate mobile use.

I love technology. I am a good ways past 60 and because my business was in the tech world I keep up with that end of the world. and.....Yes was talking about my photos.

A site loses a lot if all the technology is not used. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Thank you for listening. I am not trying to cause any trouble if the system is working for most (you will never be able to please everyone) all is good.

My career did just the opposite- it isolated me from computers, in surgery. If I needed something like lab results from the hospital computer, a nurse would leave and access it and fetch me a printout. The patient monitors I used became computer driven, but their operation was brainless.

But now, it's a different world. We have wifi at home- have for years- and I'm enjoying a coffee break on my deck. I'm watching the silly hummingbirds, drinking Peet's coffee, and playing on my iPad.
