Thread OP

Hi! I am hoping that someone can ID this weed, which has been propagating my backyard this year. It grows in upright clusters of stalks. The leaves are smooth and sessile, ovoid-heart-shaped, and partially surround the squarish stem. It bears small star-shaped purple flowers at the juncture of stem and leaves. It is not prostrate. Leaves range from very small on new stalks but are an inch or more in diameter on the larger, sturdy stalks. It is not Creeping Charlie, Speedwell or Henbit. I hope that someone here knows what it is. I have a Facebook album with additional photos of this weed, which are here:

Hi Francine,

I believe it's Specularia perfoliata, synonym Triodanis perfoliata, Venus' Looking Glass. Native throughout most of U.S. http://www.missouriplants.com/...

It's a species of Venus' Looking Glass, most likely Triodanis perfoliata.
