This tree always stands out in a forest because it's very droopy in nature. Any ideas?

It does...but, in Canada??

The leaves resemble pawpaw but the limbs of the common pawpaw don't weep like in your picture.
They have an upward growth.

cool! This tree was as tall as the Maples...huge!! Maybe tomorrow I'll go back and see if I can wade in there and get a shot of its trunk.

nope...as much as I'd love for it to be I'd of remembered any kind of fruit :)

It's not Paw Paw or Persimmon as the leaves of those trees are not toothed like that. Might be Rock Elm (Ulmus thomasii) or possibly Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra). Not sure why the branches are drooping, but elms grow that way occasionally.

I started to think Elm, but it may also be Betula. What does the bark look like?

I think you might have it, but I can't tell the difference between them...

Dave might be right too...gonna go tomorrow and get a bark pic.

Betula pendula also has the drooping/weeping look.

I have no clue what this is but one key feature you need to look at is the way the base of the leaf are extremely offset.

Oh shoot, everyone else is playing...my guess is Ulmus americana. Dirr's Manual of Woody Landscape Plants notes 3 distinct habits which include "a vase-shaped form in which the trunk divides into several erect limbs strongly arched above and terminating in numerous slender, often pendulous branchlets.

Also has the oblique leaf base and double serrated leaves w/ pointed tip and leaf veins running straight to margin.
