The Niagara Frontier Orchid Society & The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens had an Orchid Show this weekend, and as suggested, Kathy, I have some photos to add. Now, remember that I don't know orchids, not their names nor what is common and what isn't. I just know what looks pretty!

Wonderful Nancy. Thank you soooo much. They are a joy to look at! I think because you don't know them, you are freer to respond to color and pattern and design!

That skinny yellow one is really weird. (#4) And the lady next to me was all excited about the purple ones with white on them (next to the teacups). So I DO know the name of those. See photo.

She was funny. She took out the stick to read the name on it and when she stuck it back in, it broke. Then she (somewhat loudly) proclaimed, "Look at that! Someone broke it!"

Thank you to Carol, Kathy and Lindsey! I am happy to hear I did alright!

Here's what one of the vendors had to offer.

And these are just a few of the 20 or so prizes on the Raffle Table. I guess I didn't win any. They probably would have called me by now...

I think you did great!
A couple of tips for attending shows... these only work if there are " out of town" growers.
1. if you know what you want to buy, go early. They show their best stuff.
2. if you're on a budget, go the last day. They will haggle prices because they don't want to pack them up and transport them home, but the selection isn't as good.
3. I always try to get there early in the day, before it gets crowded, so the vendors have time to talk. Most of the shows around here run from Fri. thru Sun., and I'm not on a strict budget, so I usually go early on Fri. Sometimes, if you ask about a specific plant, and they're not too far away, they will bring it tomorrow.

Wow, what great ideas! It makes sense. When you go to a garage sale on Sundays, they usually mark things way down or even half off. But I hadn't thought about it in relation to flower shows. I hope I'll remember that!

Great show Nancy, thanks. The photography work is superb. I really like the paph on the right 8 rows down, it appears to be very close to a true red which is nearly impossible to find.

Most likely Glen Decker's. You can see the top of his head in the vendor picture. BTW, Piping Rock has the new website up now with many pics. http://www.pipingrockorchids.c...
Maybe you can find that complex paph there, Ken.

Thanks Kathy. Darn, no pictures for the Complex Paphs and red in the description usually means burgundy red.
